International Association of GULAG Researchers
Research into‘the Hungarian Crisis’
The International Association of Gulag Researchers (IAGR) was established with the support of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Miskolc, as a civilian initiative,in order to uncover the events of the darkest epoch in recent Hungarian history. In the course of our work, we attempt to process the stories of political prisoners, prisoners of war and detaineesin the GULAG, the GUPVI, and the system of Málenkij robot. We record memories and collect publications. We hold lectures and conferences and organise commemorations; and wehold gulag seminars at Hungarian and foreign universities.
Amongst our members there are professors, lecturers, survivors and their descendants. Our community maintains close relations with partner institutions in order to preserve the memories of those deported to the Soviet Union. Our partners in 2014 are: the Institute of Historical Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Miskolc; Fényi Gyula Jesuit High School and College; Lévai József Association of Public Education; and theNational Circle of Germans in Pécs-Baranya.
We were supported in 2014 by the Ministry of Human Resources, (NEA) City of Miskolc with County Rights (Cultural Protection Fund).
